Once an immigrant petition has been approved and a visa is available, the person can apply for lawful permanent residence (green card) in the United States. Many people who are in the United States are eligible to adjust their status here. However, there are many exceptions to this general rule. People who are not eligible to adjust their status in the U.S. must attend an interview at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate abroad. In all cases, all applicants for lawful permanent residence must be admissible to the U.S.
The rules governing adjustment of status and consular processing are complex and not always intuitive. We assist clients in analyzing the best route for obtaining lawful permanent residence, preparing and filing applications, including waiver applications, and preparing for and accompanying clients to their interviews.
